Deconstructing Fort Chaffee’s Cuban Refugee History
In 1980, more than 125,000 Cubans fleeing Fidel Castro's communist regime were boatlifted to America and processed at military compounds including Fort Chaffee in Arkansas. Among the population were gay Cubans and prisoners that Castro had purged from his prisons. The Cubans were widely portrayed by the press as criminal—a stigma that's persisted. But as Jacqueline Froelich reports, historians are working to clarify the record.

Private Option Dominates First Week of Session

Ahead on this edition of Ozarks, Spring is officially here, and warmer weather will soon bring with it insects like mayflies and damsel flies out and about. But before those bugs mature, they spend their young lives as nymphs in local waterways. We visit a local creek to see what is swimming and crawling beneath the surface. Plus, a conversation with another one of this year's gubernatorial candidates, Mike Ross. The Democrat has aspirations that stretch beyond this November. The Arkansas House is expected to vote on a proposal to expand Medicaid tomorrow, but even if the House passes the measure, a supermajority is required to fund the expansion. Dr. Joe Thompson, state surgeon general, gives us all the details on the possible expansion and how it relates to the federal Affordable Care Act.
