The Arkansas Legislature came to a consensus in Little Rock about how to prevent insurance rates from rising drastically for some Arkansas public school employees. Ahead on Ozarks, the New Year brings an increased need for nurse practitioners in Arkansas. And 100 CEOs have given their opinions about what they think 2014 may have in store for businesses in Arkansas. The Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs was shuttered nearly a month ago. But as Ozarks at Large's Timothy Dennis reports,a last-minute fundraising effort means that the threat of foreclosure has abated, at least for the time being.
Seven years ago, the Ozark Mountain Solid Waste District, which serves Boone, Carroll, Newton and four other counties, purchased an old leaky landfill and hauling company, near Mountain Home, to centralize district trash collections. Board members envisioned making the necessary ecological repairs and paying off the note within 15 years. Instead, in late November they voted to abandon the project.
