John Homans is the executive editor of New York Magazine, and he previously worked at Esquire, Details, Harper's and The New York Observer. He says the last thing he would have thought he would've written about for his first full-length nonfiction book is dogs, but that's just what he did.

Local musician/songwriter Tony Presley's musical project is called Real Live Tigers. For Presley, who self-releases and self-books tours, music a labor of love. He's got a show coming up at Nightbird Books on Dickson Street in Fayetteville Saturday night before embarking on a Southeast tour. He stopped by the Firmin-Garner Performance studio recently to play us a few songs and discuss why he plays music with "Ozarks at Large's" Katy Henriksen.

Geoffrey Brock, a professor of creative writing and translation at the University of Arkansas, recently translated Pinocchio for the New York Review of Books. The translation, out since 2009 in an adult edition, has recently been issued as a lavishly illustrated large format children's edition. A natural gas rush, fueled by new shale drilling techniques, is taking place in north central Arkansas on the Fayetteville Shale reservoir--one of the most productive plays in the U.S. The industry promises to generate well over $18 billion dollars by 2012, provide 11,000 jobs, valuable royalties to land holders and much needed tax revenue to the state. But as Jacqueline Froelich reports, certain residents claim collateral damage due to a lack of environmental oversight. As a result, U.S. EPA is now investigating the potential adverse impact so called "slickwater hydraulic fracturing" may have on water quality and public health.
