Bishop Gene Robinson, elected in 2003 as the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church will speak at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville February 9th and 10th. He took an early retirement from his post late last year and is now a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress in Washington D.C. We speak to him by phone about his life and vocation, in advance of his visit.January tax revenues for Arkansas beat expectations by about 13 percent, an increase of about 12 percent from collections in January 2012. Arkansas Senator Jason Rapert defends comments he made during a Tea Party rally last year in Little Rock. And, the Arkansas House advances legislation that would allow concealed carry of firearms into churches in the state.

The Arkansas legislature passed Act 1160 this session intended to blunt animal rights activist incursions on factory animal operations. Although the Arkansas measure was mostly gutted, the intent reflects a growing “ag gag” movement. (Correction: a dozen bills have been proposed this year, not all have been enacted, as originally reported).
The Devil’s Eyebrow, near Beaver Lake, is formally dedicated as a natural area tomorrow. The land is home to several native species not found anywhere else in Arkansas.
