Four years after Woodstock, a circle of friends living in Eureka Springs decide to stage an Ozark heritage family folk festival on a remote and rugged Carroll County wilderness. But instead of parents with children, an estimated hundred fifty thousand hippies showed up. Jacqueline Froelich takes us to visit the site, on the fortieth anniversary. Ahead on this edition of Ozarks at Large, though the next presidential election is more than two years away, some are already ready for HIlary. And as the Bentonville School District grows, so too does its course offerings. We visit a junior high school as students prepare for mountain biking. Plus, we learn about a Bentonville before Sam Walton.
Nic Pizzolatto and Tony Tost are both graduates of the University of Arkansas's creative writing and translation graduate program, but their ties to Arkansas are not the only thing they have in common. Both have broken into the world of screenwriting, specifically for television. Ozarks at Large's Katy Henriksen spoke with both Pizzolatto and Tost on how they ended up writing for the screen, how having an MFA in creative writing is beneficial to the writing process and more.
