This weekend the annual Composer’s Showcase concert in Fayetteville will include original compositions of Rick Salonen.Though it may seem like a foreign concept to transplants to the region, natives of Washington County's rural areas still carry out the tradition of Decoration Day, on which families gather at cemeteries for fellowship and in honor of previous generations.

Youth Home serves thousands of teens from around the state annually and now has a bit more financial stability. Early next month the organization called the Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A. Inc. will hold its annual convention in Rogers. The Department of Homeland Security announced this morning that hundreds of thousands of undocumented young people, who meet certain criteria, will be provided relief from criminal deportation and allowed to work in the United States. We get reaction from a state immigrant civil rights leader.
More than 1,800 animals, about 36 percent of intakes, were euthanized at the Fayetteville Animal Shelter last year. A group of residents formed “No-Kill Fayetteville” to pressure city administrators to lower that rate.
