Ahead on this edition of weekend Ozarks, one local org is about seven days into a 20-day effort to find more big brothers for children in the area, and a daughter collaborates with her mother to write a book about what life was like in France before and during World War II.

The century-old national organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters, celebrates its 20th year in Northwest Arkansas this month. In honor of the anniversary and to fill a need, the organization has launched a 20 men in 20 days campaign.
Nicole Holland lived in Paris before, during and after World War II. She dictated the events of her remarkable life to her daughter, Brenda Hancock. A “swabbing” drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the University of Arkansas Student Union. Donors at this event will be swabbed for blood type, this information will then go into the DKMS database, registering people to be potential donors in the future to patients undergoing treatment for various types of blood cancer. Ozarks at Large’s Christina Thomas spoke with organizers of the event, who said they would like to register 250 people on Thursday.
