We talk with Leo Villareal, the artist behind the first temporary outdoor installation at Crystal Bridges. And we’ll also hear a conversation with Pat Ryan Key inside the Firmin Garner Performance Studio and he'll play a couple of songs as well.

Pat Ryan Key's alt-rock trio I Do Declare Is gaining attention from beyond northwest Arkansas and his acoustic solo acoustic performances are becoming more common, too. This week he came to the Firmin Garner Performance Studio.Bucky Ball, a geometric, LED sculpture by artist Leo Villareal, is the first temporary outdoor installation for the museum. The work gets its name from Buckminster Fuller, an architect who designed geodesic domes. Ozarks at Large’s Christina Thomas spoke with Villareal about this and other works.
The Arkansas legislature passed Act 1160 this session intended to blunt animal rights activist incursions on factory animal operations. Although the Arkansas measure was mostly gutted, the intent reflects a growing “ag gag” movement. (Correction: a dozen bills have been proposed this year, not all have been enacted, as originally reported). Fourth District Representative Tom Cotton has been making the media rounds lately, and a recent article in Politico credits the Congressman with creating interest for a possible Senate run next year. Nancy Pelosi speaks in Little Rock, Arkansas' reputation for cycling improves, and outdoor events at tonight's First Thursday in Fayetteville are cancelled because of the unfavorable weather forecast, though the indoor shows go on.
Though the spring weather has subsided for this Thursday, UA students celebrated yesterday's favorable weather with a carnival.

The Idle Class, a magazine about the arts in Arkansas, started as a Tumblr in 2011. Founding editor Kody Ford then launched it into a website and most recently as a print glossy distributed free throughout the state. The second print issue debuts tonight at The Stolen Glass in Fayetteville. Kody and Andrew McClain, managing editor, stopped by the studio recently to discuss both the challenges and rewards of running a magazine for the arts in Arkansas.
