After Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Chris Piazza overturned the state’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage late Friday, dozens of couples rushed to the only courthouse open in the state on Saturday to obtain licenses—in the “Wedding Capital of the South”--Eureka Springs. Jacqueline Froelich was there. (UPDATE: As of 10:45am May 12th, the Carroll County Clerk's office stopped issuing licenses to same-sex couples, until further notice.)

Ahead on this edition of Weekend Ozarks, the cajun-zydeco group, Snake Eyes and the Bug Band, will perform this afternoon at the Fayetteville Public Library' we hear a conversation and a song from the band, and it's sort of like soccer but on horseback: polo in Bentonville. Another ballot initiative group is moving forwarrd with petitions after the state's attorney general approved the wording of its measure, which would raise the minimum wage in Arkansas to $8.50. Booneville Community Hospital starts the new year with a new name and new management. Fayetteville is set to be recognized as a compassionate city. Thirteen Arkansas counties are declared disaster areas after the early December ice and snow storm. And with a budget set, the Sebastian County Quorum Court and Fort Smith Board of Directors agree on amenities to be placed in the future Ben Geren Aquatics Park.

And with a projected shortage of primary care physicians to serve them, new research indicates that nurse practitioners may help fill the gap.
