The commercial killing of horses for food ended in the U.S. six years ago, but was revived in 2011. Three horse slaughterhouses were set to open in the U.S., including one in Missouri. But on Jan. 16th Congress declined funding USDA inspections for horse meatpacking plants, basically shutting down the industry. Senator John Boozman delivered the inaugural lecture in the food for Thought lecture series, presented by the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, food and Life Sciences. The discussion focused on many topics, one of which was fuel. And afterwards, the senator talked about his thoughts on the budget and how long sequestration will last.
